Since 1999 Richard has worked as a psychotherapist, leader, manager, consultant and trainer. He works in private practice as a psychotherapist and as a consultant and clinical supervisor in statutory, private and third sector organisations.
Richard runs reflective practice groups and supervises teams and individual clinicians across the United Kingdom. From 2002 he worked at Respond as Chief Executive and then as Consultant Forensic Psychotherapist. He trained at the Gestalt Centre London and at the Portman Clinic, and has qualifications in Management from Birkbeck and in Strategic Leadership and Management from the Tavistock and Portman NHS Trust. Richard is currently an honorary psychotherapist in the Trauma Service at the Tavistock and Portman NHS Trust and was previously an honorary psychotherapist in the Fitzjohn’s Unit at the Tavistock and Portman NHS Trust working with personality disordered, severely ill and complex patients. He is Chair of the Forensic Psychotherapy Society, a Member of the Institute of Psychotherapy and Disability, and a Member of the International Association for Forensic Psychotherapy.
Richard is registered with the British Psychoanalytic Council and is a Registered Member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy.
Richard has published widely and spoken at international conferences and trained other professionals all over Europe.
