Im May has been working as a counsellor with a Child Protection Specialist Center and in private practices since 2015. She is passionate about supporting children and youths who are vulnerable and journeying with them to develop meaningful relationships within themselves and with their caregivers. She values and pays keen attention to her clients’ voices as it is part of the therapeutic process to be heard and understood. She strives to resource clients with regulation techniques and the knowledge to connect meaningfully with their emotional and somatic states.
Im May graduated with a Master’s Degree in Counselling with Monash University. She also holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education and an Advanced Diploma in Special Needs Education. She is a EMDRIA certified therapist (EMDR).
While Im May uses EMDR as the primary counselling modality to work her clients therapeutically, she is also educated and exposed to different counselling techniques such as Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Person Centered Therapy, Mindfulness, Expressive Arts and Somatic Experiencing Therapy. She uses different techniques to support her clients in complex and challenging situations.
Over the years, Im May has been supporting and journeying with clients (including neurodiverse) who experienced trauma, relational wounds and various types of abuse, including sexual abuse. She believes resolutely that it is a privilege to be able to journey with her clients.
